Unclench those pearls because if you thought Prince Harry was going to ask anyone other than Prince William to be his best man in his wedding to Meghan Markle, you clearly didn’t have your royal thinking cap on. A source told Us Weekly that while Harry has loads of guy friends who are more than up to the task, “there’s no way he would ask anyone but William to take on the top job.”
Technically, Will won’t be best man; rather, royal expert Marlene Koenig told Town & Country that when it comes to royal weddings the “the best man or best men are officially called supporters.” And Harry’s going to need all the support he can get. Because if he thought he dealt with crazy amounts of fame before as a royal single or even dating dude, the attention on both him and Meghan post-nuptials is going to be next-level.
Now, if you’re expecting Duchess Kate to be part of the proceedings, think again. It’s safe to assume she won’t be part of Meghan’s bridal party as the two have only met on a handful of occasions and don’t really know one another. Kate will be there simply as a guest, though she might be busy keeping after her children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, who will likely take on the roles of page bearer and bridesmaid, as they did in Pippa Middleton‘s wedding to James Matthews. Also keep in mind that by then, Kate will have her hands full with baby no. 3 too.
As for William, whatever his title and role is in the wedding, he’ll undoubtedly be excellent by his brother’s side. “We’re very excited, delighted for them both,” William told reporters during his recent visit to Finland. “We’re wishing them all the happiness in this very exciting time. Personally, I hope it means he stays out of my fridge and will stop scrounging my food, which he’s done for the last few years!”
