The Amazing Race Canada has had some pretty nifty contestants so far in its three short seasons. Hal and Joanne from Body Break. Hippies who hugged everybody. Former So You Think You Can Dance Canada personality Rex Harrington. And as of Tuesday morning, Mrs. Universe herself.
That’s because Ashley Callingbull-Burnham and her mechanic father, Joel, have been officially named as contestants for the upcoming fourth season of the Canadian reality show, which returns June 28.
We’d be lying if we said we weren’t kind of excited to see what Ashley will say and do on the show, since she’s been such a media darling ever since her big win. Not only is Ashley the first Canadian to win the Mrs. Universe title, but she’s also the first First Nations woman to win the title. That makes her a pretty cool pioneer in our books.
Since her win, she’s been using it to her advantage, too. Not only has she been a huge advocate for First Nations rights in Canada, but she was also a very prominent figure in the last federal election. In fact she made it a mandate to get her community to actually vote.
I urge all First Nations people in Canada to vote in this upcoming election. We are in desperate need of a new PM. Fight for your rights.

Of course Ashley will have to fight to stay in this Race too, given its track record of tough competition. This year looks like it will be just as hard as ever, with varsity softball players, professional servers and twin sisters comprising just three of the other teams that were announced as upcoming racers on the show Tuesday morning. (The remaining teams will be announced Wednesday and Thursday.)
We have faith though. After all, Ashley and Joel’s team motto is oh-so Ricky Bobby.
“Team A & J – all the way! If you’re not first, you’re last!”
Wonder if any of the other teams will be making some firsts of their own…
