This mesmerizing, ultra-high definition video of the sun’s surface released by NASA is the most detailed and fascinating look at our sun we’ve ever had—and not even our mothers can stop us from staring directly at it.
By shooting the images from an observatory orbiting outside earth, NASA was able to get a great look at the sun’s activity, without the murkiness of our atmosphere getting in the way.
With the added score by German composer Lars Leonard, this is either the most artful scientific video we’ve seen in ages, or the best and most expensive screen saver of all time. Either way, the burbling tumult of dancing solar flare that is our sun is utterly fascinating to behold.
It’s also worth noting that the central star in our solar system bears a striking resemblance to Middle Earth’s unpopular tourist destination Mordor, minus the dragons.
