We’re less than one week away from the premiere of The Hills: New Beginnings and if you’re going to remake a show with (mostly) the same cast plus a few new additions (hello, Mischa Barton!), you need a theme song that is (mostly) the same with a few tweaks. That’s exactly what MTV has done with its upcoming revival, giving Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten” a new, 2019-vibe.

Debuting the theme song during the MTV Movie & TV Awards show, the trailer included the EDM version of Bedingfield’s hit 2004 single. With a dance-heavy vibe, the song is only recognizable by its famous lyrics, with Bedingfield singing “Feel the rain on your skin” over the dark pop instrumentation.

The remixed theme song includes the new opening credits, which re-introduces the show’s stars as well as some new faces. Brody Jenner, Audrina Patridge, Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, Justin Bobby, Stephanie Pratt, Frankie Delgado and Whitney Port are all returning for the revival, with Barton, who rose to fame on The OC, joining along with Brandon Lee, who is the son of actor Pamela Anderson and rocker Tommy Lee.

The Hills: New Beginnings won’t include two of the biggest stars from the original series, with Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari opting not to return. Both women have built huge careers following their reality show starts, which began first on Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and later on The Hills, following the group of teens from their hometown to their post-high school life in Los Angeles. Conrad has since published nine fiction books and has two fashion lines, including LC Lauren Conrad and Paper Crown. Cavallari has also been successful in the publishing and fashion industry, releasing a best-selling cookbook in 2018 and creating her own jewellery line, Uncommon James, which is featured prominently in her E! reality series Very Cavallari.

New episodes haven’t yet aired but the drama is already unfolding on The Hills: New Beginning and we wouldn’t expect anything less from the group. Following the confirmation that Conrad and Cavallari would not be returning, the weather quickly turned shady, with Justin Bobby responding to Cosmo UK’s inquiry about whether he’ll miss the gals by saying, “I don’t even know those two? [They’re] not missed by me.” Heidi Montag, who married husband Spencer Pratt in an episode on The Hills, told Good Morning America that she was relieved ex-bestie Conrad wouldn’t be returning, admitting, “I actually was kind of excited Lauren wasn’t on it because I felt like it was more freeing and fair, like, for me.” Let the game begin.

As for the overall drama of the show, Audrina Patridge promised E! News even more turmoil than the original series. “I mean, what can you not expect? There’s like everything and more. I feel like this time around there’s so much more drama, and I feel like everyone’s so much more comfortable with each other,” said Patridge. “I think there’s a lot of things, the last time around, that were left unresolved. So, everything’s kind of brought to surface.” So, almost like things were left…unwritten?

The Hills: New Beginnings premieres Monday, July 24.
