Ever since Castle ended, Nathan Fillion fans have been wondering where the actor would end up next. Comedy seemed likely, what with his guest-starring roles on series like Modern Family and American Housewife.

But at the end of the day Fillion decided to do what Fillion does best, and that’s drama with a comedic flair. Enter The Rookie (Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on CTV), one of the most buzzed-about new shows this fall. The series hails from former Castle producer Alexi Hawley, and stars Fillion as a 45-year-old construction worker who, following a divorce, pursues his dream of becoming an LAPD officer and winds up being the oldest rookie on the force.

It’s one of our favourite entries this fall thanks to a well-rounded cast and storylines that took us by surprise, but really it’s Fillion himself that sets the tone on this thing. In case you needed further proof of his awesomeness, here are just some of the reasons that he’s the most universally loved guy in Hollywood.

He’s Canadian

No doubt about it.

And he keeps his Canadian friends tight

Can we please just have a Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place reunion already?

Soaps are in his blood

Most actors shy away from their daytime drama backgrounds. Not Nathan—he still loves his One Life to Live peeps.

He’s got some serious “geek” credit

How else do you describe roles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly and The Big Bang Theory (as himself)?

Some of us are blessed with more than one family. Happy birthday, Molly, and thank you so much Susan.

But also Castle’s cancellation

All good things must come to an end, but we think the way Fillion dealt with the cancellation of Castle when it wrapped after eight jam-packed seasons was pretty great. (It’s also worth noting both Tweets clearly worked.)

He obviously doesn’t take himself too seriously

Especially when it comes to selfies.

He’s found the perfect use for social media

He appreciates a good deed

It’s all about paying attention to your surroundings, people.

Above, not pictured, are 42 pigeons on a wire. I’d like to thank this Good Samaritan. We’re all in this together.

And last but not least, everyone is always mistaking him for Nathan Fillion

The resemblance is uncanny.

Like we need any more reasons to tune into The Rookie.

The Rookie premieres Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 10 p.m. ET on CTV.
