There’s something lovely and delightful about Eddie Redmayne. Maybe it’s his boy-next-door, freckly gingerness that makes him seem so relatable. Or maybe it’s his charming British-ness. Or the fact that he is the most dapper dude in Hollywood. Or maybe, just maybe, Eddie truly is a nice, sweet man who hasn’t let fame, fortune or success change him.
The Oscar winner spoke with GQ U.K. about how lucky he was growing up, never having to really struggle and revealed that he’s all about paying it forward.
“The greatest privilege that I had was that my parents lived in London,” he told the magazine. “So when I was out of university and out of work for a year, working in a pub, I didn’t pay rent.”
Redmayne continued: “And I get letters from people trying to go to drama school and needing to pay their rent. And so that’s something I occasionally do. It’s impossibly expensive to live in London.”
Any drama student trying to make it can tell you how tough it is when you’re trying to pay the rent, the bills, eat, audition, and go to classes all at the same time. And while it would hit home harder with an actor who had previously struggled, it just shows how amazing Eddie is. He may have had a more carefree start but that hasn’t stopped him acknowledging that others haven’t been as fortunate. And the fact that he helps total strangers with their financial problems, even just a little, just BECAUSE says so much about him.
You love him even more now, right? How can you not?
