Depending on the type of vacations you like to have, a hotel can simply be a place to sleep at night on the way to your destination or it can be the destination itself. And the newest concept for a themed resort in Disney World is definitely going to be the latter.
This past weekend’s Disney expo included a number of sneak peaks at some upcoming films, including the remake of Mary Poppins, the new Avengers film, as well as a first look at footage from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. For fans looking to be fully immersed in the Star Wars universe, there was definitely some exciting news for them as well: Disney announced its plan to build a Star Wars theme resort in Disney World.
Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, revealed some of the details for the new resort that will surely get even the most casual Star Wars fan excited.
The new resort will give guests their own uniforms, story lines and secret missions, allowing them to become actual characters in the Star Wars universe. Upon entering the hotel, Chapek says “You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire. Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100% immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.”
Well, that sounds pretty amazing. Artist renderings of the new hotel were also released with the announcement, and they look like they were taken straight out of a Star Wars film.
In case news of the hotel isn’t enough excitement for the Star Wars fanatic in your life, Disney has also recently revealed a first look at the upcoming Star Wars park additions, which are set to open in 2019. Disneyland and Disney World will both feature these immersive Star Wars areas, similar to what Universal has done with Harry Potter.
Both lands will be called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and according to the Disney site, feature “two major attractions that put guests in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Each attraction… will offer guests the chance to immerse themselves in the Star Wars universe like never before.”
Time to start saving for a trip to a galaxy far, far away. We’re talking about Florida.
