After what feels like forever and about five scandals later, the 2019 Oscars are finally happening! This award show is always a good reason to get your friends together and go all out as if you were walking the red carpet yourself. Event planner Rebecca Wise is here to give us some ideas on how to throw the best Oscar viewing party your guests will ever go to.

Edible Balloons

These balloons are made out of sugar, are blown up with helium and come in all different colours. To eat them, you pop them in your mouth and as a plus; all of your guests’ voices will sound funny thanks to the helium!

Bubbles and Berry Bar

The glamour of the Oscars requires glamour in your home which is best achieved with champagne. But to take it one step further, add berries to the cups, gold sprinkles to the rims or edible gold leaves on top of your drink. You can find gold sprinkles and the gold leaves in baking companies online or bulk stores.

Hollywood Photo Banner

This can be a very inexpensive yet beautiful décor and mood setting piece at your party. Collect and print off some Hollywood celebrities’ photos, buy picture frames from your local dollar store and with these, create a backdrop display that will definitely make it onto your friends’ Instagram stories.

Lipstick station with Hollywood makeup mirror

One of the best parts of watching the Oscars is admiring the glam on our favourite celebrities. So why not set up a small glam lipstick station for your friends to get into the Oscar mentality. To set it up, you can use a nail polish display stand to offer different shades of lipstick in front of a vanity mirror. To make your DIY Hollywood mirror, find some vanity lights online with some glue on the back so they can be stuck to the sides of the mirror.

As a little giveaway, let your guests pick their favourite lipstick shade and take it home!

Gold and Black Foil Balloons

Add some gold and black foil balloons for décor and you can be sure they’ll set a glamourous tone. These balloons are also a great way to show your guests where the party is and they make a great backdrop for photos.

DIY Hollywood Sign

For another piece of great décor, you can find marquee letters at a craft store and organize them to recreate the classic Hollywood sign. Any leftover letters can be used in children’s rooms or for your guests to take home.

Charging Station

Nowadays, we can’t deny that half of the Oscar action happens on social media. For your guests to see gifs of Lady Gaga on her first Oscar nominated night, their phones need to be charged! To put a charging station together, get some portable batteries, put them in a bowl and have enough cables and ports for your guests to use.

Games and Prizes

The ceremonies last more than three hours so games are a good way to keep your guests entertained. Some good games are Name that Famous Oscar Outfit and Name that Famous Movie Quote where guests can compete and win prizes.

Portrait studio

To create a total glam night, set up a photo area for your guests to take pictures similar to the famous Oscar portraits celebrities take. A couple of must-haves are a textured backdrop, a cute piece of furniture and something to cover the ground such as a rug or a red carpet that can be found at a party store.

The finishing touches to the mini studio are the props. You can easily recreate an Oscar statue by spray painting an old action figure and gluing it to a base.
