The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards go live this Sunday night from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with Miley Cyrus at the helm. Should we assume that some serious craziness will ensue? Yes, yes, we think that’s a safe bet.
We’ve been wathing the VMAs since they launched in 1984, and there hasn’t been a year that we haven’t dropped our jaws or covered our eyes at least once.
From Madonna to Milton Berle to Miley to… Madonna, there’s been no shortage of onstage shocks and surprises (even an arrest or two). Catch up on a few of your favourite moments before heading into this weekend’s insanity.
Remember Madonna’s scandalous at-the-time, head-turning performance of “Like A Virgin” at the first VMAs in 1984? It definitely set a precedent .
Yikes. No one can forget Britney’s disastrous comeback attempt in 2007. Gimme less please!
Ah yes, Gaga’s meat dress from 2010. Who could forget that haute couture?
Fiona Apple still owns one of the more bizarre acceptance speeches in VMA history with this one from 1997. We dig it. You do you Fiona.
The only time we’ve ever really heard from Lil Mama was at the 2009 VMAs when she obnoxiously crashed Jay and Alicia’s performance of “Empire State of Mind” out of nowhere. We’re still confused!
Remember when the 2000 VMAs featured this outrageous, uh, protest I guess we’ll call it? More like Rage Against The Scaffolding!. What was he thinking?
Beyonce totally floored us with her bey-by reveal in 2011. Jay looked so excited. Can’t deny, so were we!
How about this bizarre boob grabbing incident from 1999 between Diana Ross and Lil Kim? A l’il strange.
The most unlikely duo to ever present an award is still RuPaul and Milton Berle from back in 1993. RuPaul was clearly not a fan of Mr. Berle and he seemed to know it.
We’re still floored by the truly awkward Miley and Robin twerk fest from 2013…but we still can’t look away.
Nobody saw this one coming: MJ making out with Lisa Marie Presley at the VMAs in 1994. It’s still uncomfortable to watch.
Can any spontaneous clash ever be better than Courtney Love versus Madonna from the 1995 VMAs?
Just how cringe-worthy was it to watch Michael Jackson grab an award that wasn’t an award in 2002?
“I’ma let you finish Taylor.” Kanye’s 2009 T-Swift interruption is still the most jerk-bag move in the history of the VMAs.
And yes, the Brit and Madonna make out still remains the quintessential moment in VMA history. She kissed Christina too! Why is that always ignored?
Make sure to catch every outrageous moment at the 2015 MTV VMAs live this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.
