As with most royal babies-to-be, we don’t get a ton of details until after they’re born, and even then it’s pretty much just the basics: date and time of birth, weight, gender. As far as the British Royal Family goes — if we’re using Duchess Kate as a measuring stick — the name of said baby won’t even come out for a couple of days. While Kate and William were pretty good at giving the public almost immediate access to all three of their children, they do understand the value of keeping us wanting more (thus keeping names a mystery a little longer).

With Harry and Meghan, however, we might be getting more details than we’re used to. Not just because the Sussexes are very different from the Cambridges (maybe a little more open with their lives and their affections for one another) but also — if bookmakers are correct — Megs won’t be able to hide what’s going on in her womb for much longer. Because Meghan might not be having one baby, but two.

The Daily Mail reports betting site Paddy Power had to stop taking bets on whether Harry and Meghan are having twins after “an unprecedented amount of bets” were placed. Paddy Power believes someone with inside information may have placed money on it after odds were slashed from 5 to 1 to odds-on.

“We had to suspend betting,” a spokesperson for the site said. “We saw an almost identical pattern of betting before the announcements of the couple’s engagement and pregnancy. Since the day began, the stream of bets has led us to believe that perhaps the punters — or an insider source — knows something more than we do.”

Twins wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for Meghan and Harry. Even though more and more women are having babies after 35, many require assistance since fertility tends to decline faster as we age. At 37, Megs is considered to be at an advanced maternal age so the idea of multiples for her and Harry makes a certain degree of sense. Or maybe it’s just wishful thinking — the more, the merrier.

Some have noted how the petite Meghan was showing so much so early in her pregnancy and seemingly got bigger rapidly over the course of her royal visit Down Under in October. If Meghan is carrying twins, she won’t be able to hide it for much longer. As she gets bigger, there’ll be more and more speculation, so much so that the couple might have to issue a statement. That would be new territory for the BRF. Megs is right on the cusp of her second trimester (if we’re doing the math right) so it’s just a matter of time before we know anything. Whatever happens, we’re betting the baby — or babies — are going to be freakin’ adorable. No one can wager against that.
