It’s official! After a year and a half of dating, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced their engagement! Ah young, royal, attractive and very rich love.

The official announcement came from Clarence House on Monday morning, with news that 33-year-old Harry proposed to 36-year-old Meghan earlier this month. Harry reportedly asked Meghan’s parents permission before proposing and has since informed his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II and other close members of the royal family, including his brother Prince William. The couple are expected to appear for a photo call in Kensington Palace on Monday afternoon and are planning for a spring 2018 wedding.

The news doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone who has been following the happy couple, with royal fans and bookies around the world anticipating the engagement for months.

The marriage between the American actor and humanitarian and the fifth (soon to be sixth, with the Duchess of Cambridge expecting) in line to the throne will be a less formal affair than the wedding of Harry’s brother, Prince William. Still, it will be an affair to watch, nonetheless. The marriage is the first for Prince Harry and the second for Markle, who was married to actor and producer Trevor Engelson from 2011 until 2013.

The pair were introduced by mutual friend and fashion designer Misha Nonoo, with a source telling HELLO Magazine that Nonoo introduced the couple in July 2016. Fast forward one year and Meghan was spotted wearing Nonoo’s designs at the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto. We wonder whether the pair will be collaborating on a wedding dress as well?

It’s been an exciting road to the altar for the young couple and one that isn’t finished yet. Before we start sending out save the dates, let’s take a look back and Meghan and Prince Harry’s relationship.

OCTOBER 2016

The Sunday Express broke the news that the recent spring in Prince Harry’s step was thanks to new girlfriend, actor and humanitarian Meghan Markle. The rumor mill went into overdrive when Markle posted a picture on her Instagram page wearing the same bracelet seen earlier on Prince Harry.

NOVEMBER 2016

In November, Prince Harry shocked many people by issuing an official statement asking for the privacy of his American girlfriend and criticizing the ‘sexism and racism’ Markle faced from the British press. Admitting that he understands the curiosity around his private life, he wrote that he felt “deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect” Markle from negative media attention. If someone issues a press release about you, you know it’s serious.

DECEMBER 2016

December 2016 brought an early Christmas present to Royal watchers who finally saw their first photos of Harry and Meghan together. The pair were snapped while on a date at the theatre in London.

JANUARY 2017

The pair took their first holiday together to Norway in January, where they stayed at a luxury resort and watched the Northern Lights. We have a feeling it was also a great destination for privacy from prying paps. That same month, Meghan also met Harry’s sister in law Kate, as well as his niece Charlotte, with all three getting along well.

MARCH 2017

In March, Meghan joined Harry as his date for his best friend’s wedding in the much warmer Jamaica, with the two spotted at the church and the reception together.

MAY 2017

May was a big month for the couple. They had their first official public outing at a polo match on May 6, though they did not pose together. On May 20, Prince Harry attended the wedding of Pippa Middleton, the sister of his sister-in-law Kate. Although Meghan didn’t attend the official ceremony, she did act as Harry’s date to the lavish reception. On May 23, Meghan’s close friend and fellow actor Priyanka Chopra appeared on The Wendy Williams Show and was asked about Markle’s romantic life. When asked by Williams whether Chopra thought her friend would be married soon, she said “I don’t know, I hope so. She seems happy… I think they look great together.”

AUGUST 2017

In August, Meghan celebrated her 36th birthday in London with Harry. Later than month, Meghan and Harry reportedly vacationed at the Meno a Kwena camp in Botswana, a favourite holiday location for the young Royal.

SEPTEMBER 2017

In the October 2017 issue of Vanity Fair, which hit news stands in September this year, Markle covered the mag for the first time and spoke candidly about her relationship with the Prince. Markle told the mag “We’re two people who are really happy and in love. We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception. Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.”

Later that September, Markle and Prince Harry made their first official joint appearance at the Toronto Invictus Games. Markle appeared at the events both solo and with Prince Harry, with the two even joined by Markle’s mother for one event.

September continued to be a mother, or a grandmother of a month for the couple. According to US Weekly, Markle met the Queen of England aka Grammy while in Scotland.

OCTOBER 2017

In October, Markle officially announced she would not be returning for the final season of her TV show Suits.

NOVEMBER 2017

Meghan also reportedly moved out of the Toronto house she’s been renting for years in November and made the official move to London.
