A familiar face will soon be back at Grey Sloan Memorial. You may hazard a guess, but considering how vast the Grey’s Anatomy cast has been throughout its 13 seasons on the air, there are almost too many to choose from. While it’s not Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) or Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), it is a lovely blast from the past. Welcome back, Teddy Altman (played by the amazing Kim Raver). Oh, how we missed you.
The last time Teddy was seen on the show was when her longtime pal, and former crush Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) fired her from the hospital. But it was a strategic — albeit, emotional — play, all done so Teddy would take her dream job at a military hospital, a move she wouldn’t have made had it not been for Hunt’s tough love.
Deadline reports that Raver is returning for a guest arc, though the number of episodes remain a mystery. But any Grey’s fan shouldn’t be too surprised by the casting news, since her name was not only dropped in the season finale, but that Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) briefly spoke to Teddy on the phone.
Teddy’s reappearance will kick off one of the major storylines going into Season 14, as Owen’s sister–and Nathan’s ex–Megan, was found alive after being long presumed dead. Her “death” is what ruined Owen and Nathan’s friendship, and who knows what her presence will do to them now. To say nothing of Megan’s appearance will also mess up Nathan’s deepening relationship with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo).
Here’s hoping Altman will have more to do than reintroduce Megan back to the real world and back into the lives of her loved ones. Teddy had some great storylines (getting married to Scott Foley‘s Henry so he could get on her insurance and have surgery was a favourite), and she also rocked as Cristina’s boss, and would work well with Maggie (Kelly McCreary), Grey Sloan’s current Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery. We can totally see those two butting heads.
But it was Teddy’s friendships with Callie (Sara Ramirez), Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) and Bailey (Chandra Wilson) that will forever tie her to the Grey’s family. The possibilities are endless, so perhaps Shonda and company might want to consider having Teddy back for good.
