What started as a love-filled episode of  Love Island (Monday-Sunday, 9pm on CTV) ended with tears and heartbreak. After Johnny’s elaborate plan to ask Cely to be his girlfriend went off without a hitch, the Villa seemed to be brimming with the L word.Turns out, it wasn’t. It was just Johnny and Cely (and low-key Justine and Caleb). Meanwhile, Carrington’s head has been turned by new girl Lakeyn and Laurel is ready to pack her bags, leave the cushy life of the Villa and head home to Alabama. That’s how upset she is with Carrington.

MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING

Okay, so we haven’t forgotten Johnny’s behaviour at Casa Amor or his behaviour since getting back to the Villa, but his plan for asking Cely to be his girlfriend was pretty darn cute. Point for Johnny.Johnny enlisted the help of his fellow Islanders to read poems he had written for Cely. Everyone gave a solid performance, but no one delivered with quite the same amount of theatrics as Carrington. Not only did he memorize his lines, which included the instantly iconic “This is where your boo learned to listen to you,” but he even acted out each word. This guy really does love charades.

When it finally came time to declare his love for Cely, Johnny was sweating even more than normal, including perspiring from his eyes. Also known as tears. Of course, Cely said yes to Johnny’s request for a status change and she reciprocated his "I love you." In her confessional later, she reminded us, "It has been my goal to make this man fall in love with me and today I achieved my goal." S'MORE JUSTINE AND CALEB

Honestly, we would be happy with an episode that was just focused on Justine and Caleb, but we will take whatever scenes we can get. The communicating couple are continuing to build their foundation and for Justine that means letting go of the hurt from her past relationship and fully opening herself up to Caleb. Justine is worried things with Caleb are too good to be true and has been self-sabotaging as a way to protect her heart. Caleb continues to be too good to be true and says he’s happy that Justine talked to him about her feelings and doesn’t want her to hold back. The super duper cutie couple sealed the night with smores, which TBH is how we want every date to end.

MEN AT WORK-ISH

Wednesday’s episode featured another overtly sexy challenge because there are only so many sleeping montages allowed per episode. The guys stripped down to their brightly colored speedos and made their way, Miley Cyrus-style through a construction site, before picking a girl to piggyback over wet cement and then kiss. The challenge was already the perfect amount of cringey and steamy before Carrington threw in the adjective "dramatic" by picking Lakeyn to kiss instead of Laurel. Harsh, dude. Kierstan, who continues to be our feminist queen, comforted Laurel even though she’s still in love with Carrington. Kierstan even cheered when Bennett (who she's still coupled up with) picked Laurel to kiss instead of Kierstan. There’s only a week left. Can we please find a dude worthy of Kierstan?
Bennett said that he wanted to light a fire under Kierstan by picking Laurel to kiss. He later explained his game plan to Kierstan, leading Keirstan to ask, “And you thought that was a good idea? Why?” People! Stop! Playing! Games! With! Kierstan!

FINAL THOUGHTS

  • How long did it take to set up the bricks after every wrecking ball smash during the challenge?
  • Why didn’t the guys have massive tan lines while wearing speedos?
  • Is it safe to eat marshmallows that have been cooked over the Villa fire pit?
