It feels like there have been a lot of recouplings on this season of Love Island (Monday-Sunday, 9pm on CTV) and each one is more shocking than the last. Finally, some entertaining non-terrible surprises in 2020! On Tuesday night, the guys got to choose who they would be sharing a neon headboard with that night. Some finally got to couple up with their first choice, while others were picked last for dodgeball.Following the news of the impending recoupling ceremony, couples who were on shaky or no ground (Connor and Kierstan went into the recoupling single) pulled their fellow Islanders for talks. With all the talking going on in the Villa, it’s surprising anyone has time to get in their three workouts and four glam sessions per day. In the end, four new couples emerged, with each one slightly more shocking than the last.

THE OLDIES

Carrington and Laurel, Cely and Johnny, and Justine and Caleb all kept their couple status the same following Tuesday’s recoupling. Johnny used his time at the mic to do a preemptive smooth-over with Cely’s family for his Casa Amor indiscretions by talking about how excited he is to meet them. Carrington continues to be a delight now that he’s with Laurel, proving opposites attract. As for Caleb and Justine, she’s the Beyoncé to his Jay-Z, the Jada to his Will, the John to his Chrissy. We didn’t mess that last one up. Caleb is totally a Chrissy (and she APPROVES). He also can’t wait to grow old with Justine and if you’re wondering whether we are now in our feelings, yeah. We are.

THE NEWBIES

Calvin was the lucky ducky who got to go fourth after Johnny, Caleb and Carrington had made their proclamations and decided to stop sharing glances with Kierstan and start sharing a bed. The two Texans seem like a good match and Calvin can actually form sentences when speaking to Kierstan, so that’s a bonus. After Calvin picked Kierstan, Jalen went with the other Islander he’s shared more than one conversation with and picked Sher. Even though Sher hasn’t really shown interest in Calvin, she looked disappointed when he picked Kierstan. Sher and Jalen seem like opposites in energy levels, so TBD whether opposites truly attract. The biggest question of the recoupling ceremony came down to Connor’s decision over whether he would go back to Mackenzie after the heartbreak (his) and the tears (hers–five minutes before the recoupling). ICYMI: Mackenzie and Connor have had a, shall we say, tumultuous relationship involving a lot of overreactions and a little gaslighting... Anyway, Mackenzie did her best to win Connor back, even using the rarely-seen death stare to get rid of Carrington when he tried to break up their talk with a suggestion to play charades. Pay attention, Carrington. Mackenzie and Connor were already in the middle of a game. In the end, Connor picked Moira (to the boys' and Justine's relief). As Moira said, they’re just two people who are good friends and really hot. They can’t help it if they’re hot. As for whether Moira’s friendship with Villa bestie Mackenzie will survive the recoupling, that’s another TBD.Last man standing Aaron picked last woman standing Mackenzie and they both were very cool about putting on a smile for the massively uncomfortable situation. You two deserve cake tonight.
