If you’ve ever gotten married, or celebrated two people’s love, then you know the wedding day can go by in a blink of an eye. A lot of the time, many couples can forget what the day is all about, what with the food and flowers, hair and makeup, and weather and guests to worry about.

After the vows are exchanged, that stress slowly dissipates, which comes right around the time the wedding photos are taken. There are the predictable shots like a chaste kiss, or the couple walking away through a forest hand in hand. Maybe she’s being dipped or they’re simply staring intently into each other’s eyes. But photographer James Day wanted something different.

Day was taking pictures of newlyweds Adrian and Roslyn, who recently tied the knot in Bowral, Australia. He was setting them up for the usual shots, this one with a beautiful sunset behind them, then Day had an even better idea. He told them to stop posing and “just enjoy your first sunset together as husband and wife.”

He then asked the groom, “I have a question for you, but I want you to tell the answer to Roslyn and not me. Out of the billions of people on the planet, you’ve chosen to spend the rest of your life with Roslyn. Can you tell her why?”

Whatever Adrian whispered in Roslyn’s ear must’ve been the most beautiful thing a person can say to another, because she couldn’t contain her emotion. As the tears streamed down her face, Day found himself crying too.

That pure, raw, gorgeous emotion Day captured is everything. There are so many emotions going on during a day as big as this and it’s easy to get overwhelmed by it all. But not Adrian and Roslyn. Thanks to Day, they were able to take a breath and just focus on their love and what got them to that moment, and anyone who’s felt that much love and emotion can totally relate to this. All the goosebumps.
