Did you feel a little scared the last time you were in a Beer Store location? That wasn’t just your Halloween spirit kicking in.

As of today, a tax hike on beer imposed by Kathleen Wynn’s Liberal government kicks in, which will see prices rise by 3 cents per litre or 25 cents per case of 24. It’s still unclear exactly how that will affect prices on the store shelf, however, since the province has called on big brewers to absorb the cost of the hike until at least 2017. This means craft beer lovers could be the ones left feeling the biggest sting.

Unfortunately, this won’t be the last time prices go up either. Today’s hike is the first of four 3-cent increases that will happen over the next three years, on top of annual adjustments.

Who knows, maybe this is a prime time to stock up on your favourite brew.
