Shonda Rhimes promised there would be a wedding on the season finale of Grey’s Anatomy, and she delivered. Eventually. Getting down the aisle wasn’t exactly easy for Owen and Amelia, and it was all thanks to the great Cristina Yang looming over their heads. Meredith even suggested Owen call Cristina and tell her about his impending nuptials — um, NO, nobody about to get married should ever call their ex on their wedding day — and thankfully Owen didn’t listen. Then again, it was a little sad for viewers that Owen didn’t listen because that meant we didn’t get a chance to see our girl, Sandra Oh, one more time.

And that’s not saying we didn’t want to see Owen and Amelia tie the knot. They both have been through a lot, particularly in the love department, so seeing them happy was really the bottom line here. Is she his person? Maybe. Maybe not. But Meredith ended up giving them her full support and in spite of the rain, the slushee pit stop, and the freezing cold feet, the hitching went off without a hitch. At least we think so. We only saw her walk down the aisle (in the slowest walk ever, amirite?) but if the wedding wasn’t going to happen, those second thoughts leading up to it would’ve been more of a factor.

As for the rest of the Grey-Sloan peeps, there were some happy endings, some bittersweet beginnings and, thankfully, no deadly scary cliffhangers. That’s right, for the first time in a long time, everyone was kinda-sorta OK. April went into labour and was stuck with Ben, and last time he was left alone with a pregnant lady, Mom and baby ended up dying. But Shonda wouldn’t do that to them, or us, again. Everyone who was sick of seeing Ben and Miranda at odds, well, that ship looks to have sailed after he proved to himself and his wife just how good a doctor he really is. And April and Jackson now have a beautiful baby girl; wouldn’t it be nice if they found their way back to one another?

Arizona, seeing all this love and happiness around her, could no longer stand seeing Callie so miserable without Sofia and away from Blake, so she took matters into her own hands — by sending her ex off to New York to be with her Blake. Yes, that marks another happy ending — though not for Callie fans as we may have seen the last of our favourite bone-breaking and healing doc.

That’s when it all goes downhill.

We learned why Jo won’t marry Alex. Turns out, she’s already married, to a wife-beating douchebag from whom she ran away. She knows Alex will fight for her and protect her but she loves him too much to put him through that. Of course, watching Alex do to DeLuca what her husband used to do to her probably isn’t going to get him back in her good graces.

And, finally, Meredith. Fresh off a four-times-in-one-night fling with Riggs, it looked like they were about to come to an understanding on where things stood between them. He was definitely interested, and she was starting to come around — right up until the second Maggie told her she was digging Riggs herself. Ugh. Sure, we love Maggie and want her to find love but at that same time, if Riggs has the potential to be Mer’s McDreamy 2.0 (did you see the way he looked at her at the wedding??), we can’t help but want that for our girl. Right?
