In case you missed it, Paris Hilton‘s engagement to Chris Zylka is off. They were together for almost two years, but after spending some time apart, a source shared, “Paris realized that it wasn’t meant to be and he wasn’t right for her.” Apparently things hadn’t been picture-perfect with the couple, despite what their Instagrams portrayed, so Hilton was over it. So she broke up with him. The big question? No, not who will she move on to next, rather, what’s going to happen to that gazillion-carat ring he gave her?
A quick perusal of her Instagram shows she’s deleted any evidence of Zylka. What’s also missing is pics of the $2-million ring he bought her. Not completely, mind you, but the ones where she’s really showing it off — poof. Gone.
But just because it’s vanished from social media does not mean the issue of the ring is gone. Far from it. According to TMZ, Chris wants it back, but Paris has yet to return it. Apparently he hasn’t actually said the words and asked for it yet, so unless he’s telling her telepathically, he might want to get on that.
If she never wants to give it back? Well, it looks like tough luck. TMZ reports that under California law, since she’s the one who broke it off, he has the right to get it back. The 22-carat (!!!) “dream diamond” is valued at $2 million but sources say he “got a massive discount.” Talk about sweet revenge; Chris got the ring for significantly less than it’s worth, likely because of the publicity Paris would generate wearing it, and when he gets it back he can sell it and make more than what he paid for it. That must be galling for PH, knowing he’s going to profit off their breakup. Or maybe she couldn’t care less.
The bride broke it off, it wasn’t heirloom from either side and the law is on Chris’s side. So it shouldn’t get too messy because legal statutes come into play. Paris also might want to return it because she doesn’t want a reminder of the last couple years. Or Chris might just want closure and let her keep it. Either way, one of them is surely following in Mariah Carey‘s footsteps and selling it and making some sweet money of their own.
