Kim Kardashian — hell, all the Kardashians — may be who you picture when you hear the word “selfie” but they’ve never tried to take credit for it (though, technically, Kim did say that she’s been taking them long before they were cool). Another celebrity, however, is saying she’s responsible for the photo epidemic, and she even has two pics that date the selfie’s origins to 2006, just in case you needed the details and proof.
Heiress/former reality star-turned-DJ Paris Hilton believes she invented the selfie. But she’s not a selfish woman; she’s sharing the credit, adding that her then-pal Britney Spears co-founded the digital self-portraits.

But because the internet is the internet and doesn’t want Paris taking credit for anything (even jokingly), people on Twitter are slamming the brakes on Paris’ claim, with historic proof that the selfies came long before 2006. Receipts!

Does it really matter who invented the selfie? As long as it’s not Paris, then sure! But if she thinks she’s getting a cut of the selfie stick or those illuminating phone cases, she can think again.
