If all the trendy, colourful cakes, hot drinks and even hair are starting to make your eyes roll so hard it hurts, this new charcoal latte trend might be just what you need.

The drink’s glorious grey-black shade is made by mixing activated charcoal into the latte’s espresso. And here’s the best part: it’s touted to have some serious cleansing effects thanks to the charcoal, which has traditionally been used to rid people and animals from poisons they’ve eaten.

The charcoal — made from wood, peat or coconut shell — expands and becomes porous when it’s heated. It then traps substances (like aspirin, poison, alcohol, etc.) from the digestive system in its pores, pulling out the toxins as the charcoal travels through the body.

Sure, it certainly sounds like a miracle drug, but just how safe can it truly be to eat charcoal on a regular basis?

Nutritionist Fiona Turk told Huffington Post that “charcoal’s effects are limited to the gastrointestinal tract — it is not capable [of extracting] toxins from the rest of your body. Activated charcoal will trap not only poisons, but many nutrients, particularly minerals that it comes into contact with.”

That means if you’re taking certain medications or vitamins, ingesting charcoal could stop them from working properly.

Still want to get your hands on one? So far, the lattes have been popping up at new cafes in the U.K., Japan and Australia, but there seems to be a global appetite for them, so you probably won’t have to wait too long to try it. Or if you’re bold enough, you can bring some activated charcoal of your own to your local cafe and ask one of the baristas to mix it in.

Not a coffee drinker, but absolutely need this for your Instagram account? Then you can get on the charcoal trend with a scoop of activated charcoal ice cream. Because, you know, the only thing better than a latte is ice cream.
