Meghan Markle has entered a whole other level of celebrity since she recently became a member of the British Royal Family. A life of riding around in carriages and wearing fancy hats sounds great, but it’s hard to envy the glaring spotlight.

Just this week, fans and the press have been all over the 36-year-old for her style choices. Can’t a girl just let her hair down? If you’re a Duchess, apparently not.

Firstly, the former actor and her Duke recently attended a cousin’s small wedding in Lincolnshire, England, where she was photographed in a flowing white and blue floral maxi wrap dress by Oscar de la Renta, which she paired with a Marks & Spencer fascinator, and her hair pulled back in a loose chignon. Most of her fans were down with the colour palette and the choice of accessories, but many took issue with the fit, suggesting it was maybe too flowing.

The newly minted Duchess of Sussex also made headlines in the style section for a windy-day hairdo, or lack thereof. During a recent outing with Queen Elizabeth II — does she call her Granny? — Markle was photographed with her hair blowing in all directions, thanks to Storm Hector and its 119-kilometre-an-hour winds. Some thought this submission to the will of Mother Nature was behaviour unbecoming of someone of her stature.

How dare a princess let the wind touch her silky, Royal mane!?

The public will likely never bite its tongue when it comes to Markle’s fashion choices (remember how much slack she took for her allegedly ill-fitting wedding dress?), but the woman is a trendsetter, so hopefully her Hollywood upbringing has given her thick skin along with her bold sense of style.
