For many celebrating Pride during the month of June, there are plenty of big and small ways to show love and support for the LGBTQI community – donating, marching, partying, and just generally showing up with positive words, and generous action.

But when 21-year-old Lexie Nobrega from Alexandria, Virginia, who identifies as bisexual, shared this photo of her grandma Hermina, we didn’t see the adorableness coming. Prepping for the weekend’s Pride Parade in Washington D.C., Lexie had her striped flag of pink, purple and blue ready to go. But when Grandma spotted it, there was only one thing to do – iron it, of course. “Oh, this needs to be pressed out!” she proclaimed, and off to work she set. And Lexie was there to capture the moment:

She captioned the photo with some heartfelt words, too. “Such a simple gesture, but it holds so much love and meaning for me.” And the Twitterverse was in total and complete agreement, with almost 243,000 likes and over 30,000 retweets – not bad for one grandma from Virginia.

Lexie, currently a college senior, came out to friends and family in high school, but waited a touch longer to come out to her grandparents. She shared that, despite her initial worry over their reaction, Hermina accepted her as she is, having always been supportive, and teaching her to “love and accept all people”:

The photo serves as a touching reminder that everyone has their own ways of expressing their feelings, and that actions, however small, often speak louder than words.

And no sooner had the photo spread like wildfire, did various users share their love of Hermina, and grandmothers in general:

One user even humourously noted the similarity of Hermina’s shoes, to their own grandma’s…

And since the photo received such an epic response, Lexie gifted us with one more adorable snap of the pair together, filling our hearts with even more joy:

It’s wonderful to see everyday acts of kindness, love and acceptance gain so much attention. And in case you were wondering – yes, Grandma also ironed her parade outfit.
