It’s a classic story that in film and television, Hollywood can be a little… white. In the U.S., where most of this content is produced, minorities make up nearly 40 per cent of the population, yet that same group only represents 16.7 per cent of roles.

Some editors and staff at BuzzFeed decided that enough is enough, and they took matters into their own hands by recreating classic movie posters with a more multicultural feel. Think Titanic, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Mean Girls and The Breakfast Club.

The results are beyond amazing. Not only do the resulting posters paint a more accurate reflection of what the world looks like today, but they’re also more interesting than before. Although, that could be because we feel as though we’ve been seeing the same type of movie poster over and over again recently.

It’s also worth noting that these posters break the preconceived stereotypes and roles that men and women of colour have been asked to play for decades, which is an empowering message all by itself.

Have a look for yourself, and be sure to enjoy the snazzy music that goes along with these photo shoots.
