Five glorious years ago, a good many people believed Pippa Middleton and her bodacious booty stole her sister’s thunder when Kate married Prince William. So do you think the Duchess plans on getting a little revenge? Because now’s her chance. Pippa has confirmed that she is engaged to James Matthews, the man you may or may not have seen her with at Wimbledon, a couple of weeks back.

Middleton released a statement to the BBC, saying that she and Matthews are planning to marry next year. A Kensington Palace spokesman added that Will and Kate are “absolutely delighted and parents Michael and Carole Middleton are “absolutely thrilled” with the news, adding, “They make a wonderful couple and we wish them every happiness together,” he added.

But those are just the official statements. The Daily Mail has all the juicy details, like where and how James popped the question, and how shocked Pippa was, which is what we really care about.

According to the Mail, he proposed in the Lake District, where he dropped to his knees and drew out “a stunning diamond ring from deep within a pocket.” She was taken completely by surprise but said yes immediately. Reads like a romance novel, right?

“James is a traditionalist and very much wanted to do things properly,” a friend of the couple told the Mail. “That meant getting his future father in law’s consent.” Aw. And look at Pippa at an event Monday night, hiding the ring. Knowing her, we’ll see it soon enough.

The two have known each other for a while now, having had a bit of a fling in 2012, but only really started dating in the past year. Matthews may not have a royal pedigree but he did attend Eton College, the same boarding school as William and Prince Harry.

Matthews, a hedge fund manager and chief executive of Eden Rock Capital Management Group, which he started more than a decade ago, “worked very hard from an early age,” said a friend. “He made a huge amount of cash from hedge funds and some more from the London property market. We’re talking millions here and you don’t do that by the age of 40 unless you are a sharp cookie. And James is very bright.”

James seems like the entire package. Some might say he scored with Pippa, but she didn’t do too shabbily either. We can’t wait to hear the details as their wedding day nears. We fully expect a posh affair, probably not as big as Will and Kate’s, but as far as society weddings go, this one will be a biggie. Congrats to Pippa and James!
