Get ready to bust out a tune, because this news has really struck a chord in our hearts. Pitch Perfect 2 is barely out of theatres, but the sequel hit such a high note that (of course) a third movie is now officially in the works. And we’re already counting down the days.
Why’s that? Because Bella babes Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson have both officially signed back on for the third film in the franchise, and will reprise their roles as Beca and Fat Amy. And that means the rest of the cast is probably about to follow suit.
OK, so we know the sequel didn’t quite live up to expectations, but if we’re being honest, they rarely do. And the first Pitch Perfect was so…well, perfect, that any kind of follow-up would have had some pretty big shoes to fill. Besides, the sequel also happened to be Elizabeth Banks’ directorial debut; if she signs on to direct the third (as of right now she’s only on board to produce), we’ve got total faith that she’ll do an even better job this time. As if a $259.7-million worldwide franchise hit wasn’t a good enough job.
There’s also a lot of time to mull it all over; a script hasn’t even been written yet. Kay Cannon, who wrote the first two movies, is supposedly in talks to write the third as well. If all goes according to plan, the tentative idea is to release the third installment on July 21, 2017.
And THAT means we can spend all of next summer perfecting our pitch. Now excuse us while we head to the local karaoke bar.
