The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has been having a pretty interesting day on Twitter.

Ever since the Republican National Convention kicked off in Ohio yesterday, staff have been getting bombarded with all kinds of tweets about Donald Trump and the upcoming election south of the border. Those messages, it turns out, were meant for the Republican National Committee, which tragically happens to share an acronym with Newfoundland’s police force (RNC).

Sorry, guys.

Fortunately, The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is pretty accustomed to this. Its twitter handle has been mistaken for others in the past, and staff have taken steps to try and make it more distinctive. The word “police” was eventually added, but a lot of people still don’t seem to be noticing. Like, a lot.

As for why they don’t just call themselves “The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary,” well, that apparently exceeds Twitter’s username character limit (#TooComplicated).

Knowing there was nothing they could do, staff actually began encouraging people to vent on their page. Because if you can’t beat ’em, you might as well join ’em.

We have to hand it to the Newfoundland police. They were pretty great sports about all this.
