Oh, to be pregnant. It’s a joyous time of nausea, not drinking, feeling like a bloated whale and not being able to see your feet (let alone shave or trim your newly wild lady parts). Sure, we do it because we have one of the best rewards in the world at the end of it — a little baby girl or boy to melt our hearts — but that doesn’t make the journey of pregnancy any less uncomfortable.
Of course there are often no words to express such emotions. That’s why we see so much cause to celebrate the release of “mom emojis,” a new line of emoticons that aptly describe all those miserable feelings of pregnancy, not to mention the hilarity that comes with being a new mom. Because… well, most new moms have been there, but how do you put the feelings associated with bathroom-stall pumping into words?
We also like the one of the spilt milk, showcasing that feeling of extreme frustration after losing an hour’s worth of pumping.
Or how about this one, when your little wee one takes the word “wee” a little too literally?
Yeah, it’s a party for the baby, that’s for sure. Us? Not so much.
It turns out we have girlfriends Sarah Robinson, Hannah Hudson and Natalie Ralston to thank for conceptualizing these brilliant pictures, and Lauren Burke for illustrating them. All 250 of them, to be exact. Because as these ladies know, sometimes your cell phone and a good friend on the other end can help get you through some of the darkest days of pregnancy and motherhood. Seriously, we don’t know how women did it back before texting and social media.
All the emojis are pretty much perfect, but we’re especially fans of the pregnancy ones. Because sometimes, you need to describe your
morning all-day sickness with something better than a green smiley face.
Sexy, right? Almost as sexy as you probably (don’t) feel…
Because we all own pregnancy lingerie. Obviously.
We applaud these ladies, and sincerely thank them. Because now there truly is an emoji to describe the worst pain of your life.
