If Prince William and Prince Harry really are on the outs, we will still happily take them feuding over a war between the duchesses any day. Because while a Kate vs. Meghan storyline reads “sexier” (barf), we would much rather not have two more women in this world pitted against each other. Plus, when two brothers fight, there’s always hope that it’s not going to be a lifelong battle — especially when the two in question are Will and Harry, men who’ve already lived through so much in their young lives, that only the other can relate to.
Recent word that the Cambridges and Sussexes were not only separating offices and staffers, but households as well sparked yet more rumours that the brothers really did have a hate-on for the other. But the Daily Mail is reporting some good-ish news for a change; the reason for the parting of ways wasn’t really about the brothers distancing themselves from each other, but rather making things better for everyone involved, and Will is fully on board.
According to the Mail, William was instrumental in helping Harry and Meghan secure a larger budget for their own household, which will be no longer be a part of Kensington Palace. During the podcast On Heir, royal reporters Emily Andrews and Omid Scobie discussed how the Queen and Prince Charles were initially hesitant to give Harry his own household, but Will fought for him.
“Charles and the Queen did not want the Sussexes to have their own individual household, and indeed how could they because the money has to come from somewhere,” Andrews said during the podcast.
“It was actually Prince William who had to step in and fight to get Harry a little bit more money to spend on building a team because he understands what this means to Harry and how much he wants to achieve,” Scobie chimed in. “He also understands how important Harry and Meghan are for the image, the brand and the future of the Royal Family.”
Baby steps — but we’ll take it. If true, this shows how much William gets how important Harry and Meghan are to the royal brand and that he has his back when it counts. If the brothers really are at odds, it’s still a win-win, as KP can focus all their attention on Team Cambridge and the Sussexes can start fresh. And it’s literally all kinds of new beginnings for Harry and Meghan, what with their baby, new home, and new work system. Good for everyone!
