When will the celebrity breakups end? No one seems to be safe, but at least these two have precedent on their side to give them hope. It was revealed by a ‘friend’ this weekend that Princess Beatrice of York and her American boyfriend, Dave Clark, broke up last month after 10 years together. The source says the break was ‘amicable and mutual’ and intended to give both of them the time and space to decide what they want from the future. After all, Beatrice has been with Clark since she was 18, it’s understandable if she wants to play the field a little.

Doesn’t this sound a little familiar though? Ah, yes, our very own magical fairy-tale couple Will and Kate split for a few months in 2007 after dating for four years, then went on to get married in a little worldwide affair in 2011. If that’s not hope, we’re not sure what is.

It seems like there was some intense pressure on Clark to propose to Beatrice after the birth of Princess Charlotte relieved her from the Succession of Crown Act. By that law, the first six in line for the throne must seek the Queen’s approval before marrying–something everyone assumed she wouldn’t give the couple, especially considering William’s comments about Clark being ‘indiscreet.’ Charlotte’s birth bumped Beatrice to number seven on the list so she is now free to marry whomsoever she pleases. Which is apparently not Dave. A source says Clark’s lack of proposal prompted a series of ‘where are we going?’ talks (we’re assuming even Royals don’t like those) the result of which was the break up.

In case you’re wondering who this Dave Clark guy even is, he’s the son of an American multi-millionaire lawyer and is currently the head of external affairs for Uber (yes, that Uber). Beatrice moved to the United States to be with him, and followed him from San Francisco to New York when he relocated for work. She’s currently working for friends at a business consultancy in Manhattan and doesn’t seem eager to move back to England. It seems these ties were not severed very cleanly and the couple still talks occasionally. Hmmm…

It’s always sad to see a couple that lasted so long break things off. Hopefully these two will follow in the footsteps of Will and Kate or Bennifer 2.0 and get back together. Time apart has ways of making us realize what we had. Maybe a break will give Dave time to get it together and marry that princess.
