When Johnny Cash sang “I fell into a burning ring of fire,” he must have been talking about Hot Ones, the massively popular online show where celebrities nosh on hot wings while trying to answer burning questions about their lives and careers before their stomachs explode into a pit of fire and brimstone. They had YouTube back then, right? On Thursday night's episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on CTV2), Hot Ones host Sean Evans and his torture chamber of hot sauces dropped by to give Fallon and Priyanka Chopra-Jonas a burning taste of what it might feel like to visit the literal centre of the earth. They both struggled to eek out a few words throughout the hysterical seven-minute segment as they begrudgingly bit down on wings that grew progressively hotter until they were blinking back tears and jumping out of their seats. We don't know why any celebs choose to put themselves through this but are so happy when they do.Priyanka was, admittedly, more able to maintain her poise and composure than Jimmy, who was clearly out of his depth. “Mmm, it’s okay. Good too!” she said while chewing on a wing labelled "four out of ten" on the heat index. Meanwhile, Jimmy’s face blew a bright blush as he struggled to clear his throat. Let's hear it for our girl!
Priyanka should have known what she was getting herself into since husband Nick Jonas previously did the show. Evans recalled that Nick told him Priyanka gave a good pep talk before he took on the "wings of death." She admitted it was more than her husband's taste buds on the line—her own reputation was at stake.“Well, I did tell him that he needs to do this for the Indians,” she quipped to a round of audience laughter. “Now that he’s married to my entire country.”The segment also saw Jimmy losing his mind and balance when asked to sing a song—a request he's usually more than willing to oblige. He rather painstakingly busted out his much beloved impression of Barry Gibbs and “Staying Alive,” which was fitting because we’re sure he was feeling like death at that very moment.ICYMI, this same show gifted us an important meme when guest Idris Elba choked back tears as he struggled his way through the spicy interview and Stephen Colbert was recently in the hot seat where the wings had him jumping out of his seat and swearing up a storm.
