From the moment Duchess Meghan‘s friends came out and defended her from ongoing media attacks, we knew it was only a matter of time before some media bad guys were going to try to publicly mess with those friendships. First attempt? Priyanka Chopra. She didn’t attend Meg’s shower and many wondered what was up. Combine that with Meghan’s absence from all of Priyanka and Nick Jonas‘ weddings a couple months back and, boom: Priyanka is pissed at Meghan.
According to Page Six, the two friends have “hit a rough patch” and while Priyanka happily attended Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry in May, “Priyanka was crushed” when Meg declined the invitation to her wedding to Nick. Her response? To skip out on Meghan’s baby shower.
“Their friendship is over unless Meghan apologizes,” said an insider. “Priyanka is a huge international star with a tremendous social media following. She is probably more famous worldwide than Meghan is. She feels Meghan didn’t respect her, and didn’t respect their friendship.”
This is all a little… extreme, especially since TMZ claimed Chopra missed the shower because she was stuck working in L.A. And at the time of Pri and Nick’s wedding, Entertainment Tonight reported Meghan was trying to keep travel to a minimum.
That being said, Meghan has managed to travel quite a bit since, particularly this past month which included the trip to New York, followed immediately by her three-day tour in Morocco with Harry. Based on that ease of mobility, it would be understandable if Priyanka was upset and disappointed and even a little offended that one of her closest friends missed her big day. If it was Meghan Markle of yore, not the *Duchess of Sussex*, she surely would’ve moved mountains to be at Pri’s wedding.
Of course, we don’t know all the details. Maybe Meg was suffering from brutal morning sickness in December, or perhaps the threat of the Zika virus was considered too big a risk for her to fly to India. And logistically Meghan’s presence would’ve been a royal pain. A thunder-stealing royal pain. There would’ve been security required at every wedding, pre-wedding and post-wedding event she (and presumably Harry) attended, fans and reporters would have been clamouring to get pics of her, and all that attention would’ve taken away from the bride and groom themselves. Meghan is a giver, not a taker, so while she was MIA, there’s little doubt it was for the best.
These are two busy women with packed schedules who live in different countries, so it’s understandable that they’re going to miss out on a few of the other’s big life moments. But if they really are true friends, they get that, they’re there for each other, though not always physically, no matter what. In fact, another source said, “There are no issues between the two women. They are friends, and anything you’re being told otherwise is inaccurate and untrue.” Way to bury the lede, Page Six.
