Vladimir Putin has officially gone too far.
At this week’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit, the Russian president was seen wrapping his shawl around the Chinese President’s chilly wife.
And in the eyes of Chinese authorities, that was simply unacceptable.
You see, even though Putin came off looking like a gentlemen, it made the Chinese summit host (who was chatting away with U.S. President Barack Obama) look inattentive and unsophisticated. Especially when you consider propaganda officials in the country have worked tirelessly to frame Xi Jinping’s relationship with his wife as loving, and pretty much perfect. So when social media began filling up with jokes about the divorced Russian president’s real intentions with her, they knew they had a problem on their hands:
Putin hits on Chinese First Lady lol – wonders never cease. http://t.co/gccgwcbJDP

But before we go on, maybe those jokers have a point. I mean, the chemistry between these two is undeniable:
Look at their faces! And that hand placement — they’re definitely smitten.
Either way, Chinese authorities weren’t having any of it. After the state broadcaster uploaded footage of the summit online, officials quickly stripped it off the country’s government-controlled internet. So you could say that Putin’s cover up was covered up (It’s a recycled joke from Twitter posts, OK?).
There is a good side to all of this though. While the Chinese president came out of the summit looking a little red-faced, Putin managed to accidentally build a new name for himself:
