Toilet paper. When it comes to using up the stuff, we’ve known it to have many purposes other than leaving us feeling a little cleaner down there. We’ve used it as a makeshift coffee filter, a suitable bandage after shaving and as a barrier between our skin and that spider crawling on the wall.
But never did we imagine it would prove useful in achieving heat-free, beautiful bouncing curls. Thank goodness someone else did.
Specifically, we have YouTube beauty star Nicole Skyes to thank for this revelation. In a recent episode of her webseries, Beauty Hacks or Whack, Skyes put toilet paper curls to the test. And as it turns out, it’s 100 per cent sheer hack.
In the video above, Skyes greets viewers with toilet paper already in her hair, which she twisted up there the night before. Heck, she even walked her dog while sporting the look. You have to respect a gal who’s willing to use herself as a test subject, no?
Anyhow, going about creating the curls seems pretty damned simple. All one needs to do is rip off a small strip of toilet paper, roll it around the hair from tip-to-root, then gently tie a knot at the top. Being nice and gentle is key, mind you, because you don’t want the toilet paper to rip. Want thicker curls? Use a thicker piece of paper by folding it over a couple of extra times.
When you wake up, don’t be surprised if some of the pieces have unraveled a little bit. The solution? Simply pin them up a little bit and go about getting ready for your day. Then, when you’re ready to reveal, unravel them all and marvel at the results.
Voila! Pretty curls with no heat, product or muss. Not to mention, no expensive styling tools.
We don’t know about you, but we can’t wait to try this one out for ourselves… maybe even tonight.
