Looks like this case just went cold.
Prince George RCMP say that on Sunday, they received a call about a break and enter from a resident who found someone in their home. But by the time they arrived on scene, the suspect had already fled in a pickup truck. Authorities quickly called in a police dog to help track her down, but we don’t think any of the officers expected to find her where they did.
Philicity Rhea Lafrenier, 25, was located on an ice floe, as in, a piece of ice floating down the Nechako River. It had already drifted two kilometers away from where the woman left her truck. But that’s not the only bizarre part of this getaway attempt.
“She had started a fire on the ice and police believe she was attempting to destroy evidence,” officers wrote in a statement.
Does she not understand that a fire melts ice?! There’s just so much solid planning here.
Fortunately, an officer was able to get to Lafrenier, where she was arrested without incident. Of course, because this is Canada, polite local boaters then offered to help them both back to shore. The woman is now facing several charges, including break and enter, mischief, and possession of property obtained by crime.
Now that’s a slippery slope.
