It’s been 40 (or so) long weeks, and the baby—or perhaps, babies—you’ve been anxiously waiting for is finally here. But the joy, the all-consuming love…aren’t. In fact, it’s the reverse.
If you feel (or felt) like something just isn’t “right” after bringing baby into the world, you’re not alone: Between eight and 13 per cent of new mothers experience postpartum depression. Symptoms can include feelings of sadness, guilty thoughts, changes in sleep and appetite, feeling weak and/or a heaviness in the head. And for some, those are just the beginning.

We spoke to three mothers who candidly shared their varied experiences with postpartum depression in hopes of starting a broader conversation around the issue, which touches more people than we probably know.
