You’re sitting under summer’s thick, humid heat, and you’re ever so parched. You need something cold to help you cool off and relax. But now the hardest question of the day looms over you: to have a glass of wine or to have a glass of coke? Well, why not have both?
A kalimotxo is just that–a unique blend of equal parts red wine and coke in a single cup. Although the combination sounds strange, people initially used coke to hide the taste of bad wine (and we already love rum and coke), so your not-so-good wine doesn’t have to go down the drain.
This wine-coke cocktail is an insanely easy drink to make if you’re inexperienced when mixing drinks and also gives you exactly what you want this summer: sugar and booze. And it isn’t just wine and coke. It’s a great tasting cocktail for anyone who likes to have a simple drink and isn’t in the mood for flashing around an elaborate cocktail decorated with fancy fruit.
Add in some ice and a squeeze of fresh lemon to give it a bit of a kick:

It’s boozy, it’s carbonated and it tastes a heck of a lot like sangria (minus all the fruit).
Looks like you don’t need to crack out that good wine after all to impress your guests this summer. Just mix any old red wine with some coke, and they’ll keep coming back for more.
