With all the controversy surrounding New Balance as of late, Reebok decided to take an opportunistic swing at their competitor, offering free shoes to anyone who burned or threw out their New Balance shoes on social media.

New Balance, who got into a lot of heat after their Vice President of public affairs Matthew LeBretton supported one of Trump’s policies regarding trade, has denied advocating any bigotry and hate and remains committed to manufacturing in the U.S.

“The statement is correct in the context of trade, not talking about large geo-political anything, but in the context of the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement,” LeBretton clarified to Buzzfeed. “It’s inaccurate. Everything I’ve said is in the context of trade.”

But still, people were still angry, burning their New Balance sneakers with abandon. Lucky for them, these individuals didn’t remain sneaker-less for long. Spotting a marketing opportunity, Reebok decided to replace their discarded shoes for free.

Unfortunately for anyone else looking to cash in on the trades, don’t go burning your shoes just yet. The offer looks like it was a one time deal.

Better luck next time.
