Reese Witherspoon has been cleaning up lately at award shows and garnering critical praise for producing and acting in TV dramas like Big Little Lies, Little Fires Everywhere and The Morning Show. Now she's preparing to release some lighter content and is connected to not one, but two new romantic comedies. Flipping from drama to comedy and filming two movies back-to-back? What, like it’s hard?Deadline announced the news, confirming that Witherspoon will be starring in as well as producing both films under her Hello Sunshine production company. And it gets better: both rom-coms already have titles, synopses and a partnered streaming platform. The films, called Your Place or Mine and The Cactus, will be Netflix originals.Your Place or Mine is described as “two long-distance best friends who change each other’s lives when one decides to pursue a lifelong dream and the other volunteers to keep an eye on the friend’s teenage son.” The original script was written by Aline Brosh McKenna (known for 27 Dresses, The Devil Wears Prada, We Bought a Zoo and Annie), who will also be making her directorial debut on the film. So, this is gonna be great. In addition to Hello Sunshine, Your Place or Mine will also be produced by Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan’s Aggregate Films, which also produces a little Emmy-winning show called Ozark that Bateman stars in and directs.[video_embed id='1818994']RELATED: Jennifer Aniston reveals why morning shows are so popular[/video_embed]A longtime book-adaptation fan (see: Wild, BLL and LFE), Reese will also star in the adaptation of Sarah Haywood’s bestselling novel The Cactus. Released in 2018, the title is already part of Reese’s Book Club and tells the story of a woman who is surprised to find herself pregnant at 45. This life-changing event inspires her to leave her structured life behind and embark on an exciting new journey of self-discovery.
While Reese originally made her name with rom-coms (you know, Legally BlondeSweet Home Alabama and the like), we haven't seen her play in the genre since 2017's Home Again. Reese is a powerhouse regardless of whether she's tasked with drama or comedy, but if you've been missing that classic Reese rom-com banter, this is fabulous news. And since these upcoming films are Witherspoon-produced, we can only expect excellence—Hello Sunshine’s film production credits include Wild, Gone Girl, Hot Pursuit and Lucy In the Sky as well as her latest TV dramas.[video_embed id='1957466']BEFORE YOU GO: Jason Momoa shows off serious tomahawk tossing skills[/video_embed]
