“A surprise appearance by Rihanna” is possibly the most exciting combination of words in the English language and that’s exactly what we got Sunday night at the BET Awards. Riri showed up in head-to-toe black leather, by Fenty of course, to present the BET Lifetime Achievement Award to Mary J. Blige and cheer on Lizzo as the “Juice” singer killed it on the flute.
Rihanna wasn’t the only one stunning at the awards either—host Regina Hall ~brought it~ in several different outfits and Taraji P. Henson, Cardi B and Lizzo all dressed like the total legends they are. Check out all the hottest looks from the night right now.
Rihanna, Taraji and Cardi dazzle at the 2019 BET Awards
LizzoLizzo. Can. Do. No. Wrong. Not only did she kill it on the carpet in this custom Marco Monroe wood grain ensemble (to quote the artist: “No I’m not a branch at all look baby I’m the whole damn tree”), she sang, played the flute and impressed Rihanna to boot. RihannaLeave it to Riri to grace an awards show with her presence in head-to-toe black leather from her own fashion label. We aspire to one day claim even a fraction of that bossness.Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images for BET
Regina HallHost Regina Hall killed it in about a dozen outfits over the course of the broadcast (because that’s what’s required of female hosts if we're being real…) but one of our faves was her black Cong Tri look on the red carpet. With the definition of puffed sleeves and the sparkly mini-dress, this is a total winner. Aaron J. Thornton/Getty Images for BET
Taraji P. HensonFrom one icon to another. Taraji P Henson showed up to present the Ultimate Icon Award to Tyler Perry and hit the stage for a dance with host (and BFF) Regina Hall. She walked the carpet in a stunning sheer black Balmain gown.Liliane Lathan/Getty Images for BET
Cardi BAll hail Cardi B—the second woman (after Beyoncé) to win the BET Album of the Year Award! Cardi continued to prove she’s all about the hustle by performing the show’s opening number and then accepting her award in this dazzling custom Nicolas Jebran ensemble. We’re all for this alien lizard chic look. Kevin Winter/Getty Images
John LegendChrissy Teigen’s husband John showed up to the awards in a shiny summery suit look that really showcased his superior style—we don’t accept wide-legged pants on just anyone these days. The singer was joined by DJ Khaled for a musical tribute to the late Nipsey Hussle who was posthumously honoured with the BET Humanitarian Award and Best Male Hip-Hop Artist. Aaron J. Mary J. BligeAfter a lifetime of achievement in the recording studio, on the stage and on the screen, Miss Mary J. Blige is still killing it. She brought her A-game to the carpet in this regal Alberta Ferrettti gown and then reminded the world that no one can compare to her by performing her own musical tribute. Sometimes, if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself. Aaron J. Thornton/Getty Images for BET
Lil Nas X and Billy Ray CyrusLil Nas took his horse to the Old Blue Carpet (literally) along with his unlikely collaborator, Billy Ray Cyrus, in a look that was kind of the epitome of the song “Old Town Road” itself (think about it). Of course, the duo performed the chart-topper during the awards to a very appreciative crowd.Aaron J. Thornton/Getty Images for BET
Marsai MartinIf you don’t know the name Marsai Martin, you better learn it quick. Marsai is the 14-year-old executive producer and star of Little and just won the BET Young Stars award. Not only is she the youngest EP in Hollywood, she was also one of the most stylish in her gold strapless Romona Keveža cocktail gown. Frazer Harrison/Getty Images
Yara ShahidiSpeaking of young inspirations who started on Black-ish, Yara joined her on-screen sister in a pastel Prabal Gurung sweater and sequined skirt ensemble. The look is a little unconventional, but this girl is werking it. Aaron J. Thornton/Getty Images for BET
CiaraAnd Ciara does it again! This woman never fails to surprise us on the carpet and she didn’t disappoint Sunday in this bright orange Jean Paul Gaultier Grecian gown. Is she ever not totally fabulous? (Answer: no). Frazer Harrison/Getty Images
