“FourFiveSeconds,” the first single off Rihanna‘s upcoming, not-yet-titled album was released last week and the video premiered today. Starring the super-trio of RiRi, Kanye West and Paul McCartney, it’s about as perfect and beautiful as a video can get. The song, which will also be featured on Kanye’s new album, is raw and simple — and unlike anything we’ve heard from Rih.
The video, directed by Inez & Vinoodh, matches the tune; no bells and whistles, just McCartney’s acoustic riffing and Rihanna and Kanye’s clear, crisp voices. The video is in black-and-white, with all of them in denim and clunky boots. That being said, despite its simplicity, Rihanna has never been sexier. There’s no HD makeup; she looks fresh and glowing and the only evidence of the fashionista are those razor-sharp nails. But it’s the part where she’s gets emotional (blink and you’ll miss it) that might break your heart just a smidge.
Kanye seems calm and collected but there are other times where he looks like he’s ready to jump out of his skin. That telling drop of sweat sliding down Kanye’s head shows that he may have finally learned to restrain himself. As for Paul, well, he’s the coolest cat around. What else can we say about him?
The tone of the song is perfect, and both singers know when to reel it in and when to belt it out. This is as passionate as it gets. We can’t wait to hear what else is in store on both their albums.
