Rihanna's comment at her annual Diamond Ball spark pregnancy rumours

Rihanna hosted her annual Diamond Ball on Thursday night and as if her celeb-filled red carpet and A-list performer line-up wasn’t enough of a headline, now fans are suspecting that the singer is pregnant. She did say she was going to give birth, but we feel like it was more a comment talking about her future not present.While speaking with Essence Magazine on the red carpet, she mentioned the importance of her identity as a black woman and referenced the strong black women in her life who inspired her: "I’m a black woman. I came from a black woman, who came from a black woman, who came from a black woman and I’m going to give birth to a black woman." So yeah, now people think she’s pregnant. Fair enough.

"Rihanna Is Pregnant" quickly began trending on Thursday night, with members of the Rihanna Navy are already picking out paint colours for the nursery and betting on due dates. As always, Twitter did not disappoint when it came to overreactions.

The Diamond Ball event was hosted by Late Night star, and RiRi drinking buddy, Seth Meyers and featured performances from Pharrell and DJ Khaled, who also performed at Rihanna’s instantly-iconic Savage x Fenty NYFW show earlier this week. Rihanna also performed at the Diamond Ball, so if she is pregnant then she’s fighting through any morning sickness like a pro.

As some eagle-eyed fans pointed out, Rihanna was photographed and filmed drinking throughout the night, once again confirming our suspicion that Riri is not pregnant but was simply making a point. Or, maybe she made the comment in hopes of diverting attention away from her highly anticipated ninth studio album so people will finally stop asking her when it’s going to be released. So…when is it going to be released?

Also, we feel like if and when Rihanna is pregnant with her first child, the announcement will be much more impressive then quickly dropping the information in a red carpet interview. We’re talking Beyoncé-Instagram-photshoot-with-lingerie-and-flower-backdrop epic, but she'll be wearing Savage x Fenty, obviously.Rihanna’s annual Diamond Ball was created in honour of her grandparents Clara and Lionel Braithwaite and in support of her charity the Clara Lionel Foundation. Money raised by the event goes towards global health and education programs as well as emergency response programs. In addition to Rihanna and the evenings’ performers, this year’s guest list included Cardi B, Normani, Fabolous, Meek Mill, Kehlani, G-Eazy, Shanina Shaik, A$AP Rocky, Paula Patton, Karlie Kloss and more.
