From vampire to Caped Crusader? Variety is reporting that Robert Pattison—brooding teenage heartthrob turned brooding adult heartthrob—is in final talks to become the next Batman in the already-scheduled 2021 DC film. Nicholas Hoult is also on the shortlist to play the complex hero, but reporting suggests Pattinson will be the final choice.

Director Matt Reeves has been on the hunt for a new Batman since Ben Affleck—who starred in two movies as the hero—announced his departure at the beginning of 2017. Pattinson is an interesting choice, since he’s branched off into more interesting roles since his Twilight stint. Then again, he’s also got experience playing a melancholy billionaire in the little-seen David Cronenberg drama CosmopolisAll he needs now is a batsuit and a British butler.

If Pattinson seals the deal, he’ll be the second-youngest actor, at 33 years-old, to take on the role of Bruce Wayne, next to Christian Bale who was 31 when he starred in Batman Begins. Nicholas Hoult (at 29 years-old) would unseat Bale as the youngest Batman were he to take on the role.

The new Batman news naturally has the internet buzzing, mostly in approval.

Other actors who might still be on the list? Armie Hammer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
