Woody Allen is set to debut his memoir Apropos of Nothing on April 7 and will release the new title with Hachette Book Group, the same publisher that released his estranged son Ronan Farrow’s 2019 book Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators. Following this week’s news that Hachette is backing Allen’s book, Ronan and his sister Dylan, who has accused Allen of sexually assaulting her as a child, have publicly spoken out against Hachette.Dylan was the first of the siblings to comment on Allen’s new book finding a home at Hachette Book Group. Posting a message on Twitter on March 2, Dylan wrote "Hachette's publishing of Woody Allen's memoir is deeply upsetting to me personally and an utter betrayal of my brother whose brave reporting, capitalized on by Hachette, gave voice to numerous survivors of sexual assault by powerful men."[video_embed id='-1']RELATED: Colin Firth Refuses to Work with Woody Allen Again[/video_embed]Dylan, who alleges that Allen began sexually abusing her in 1992 at age seven, noted that Hachette made no effort to contact her to fact check her father’s account of their relationship. "This provides yet another example of the profound privilege that power, money and notoriety affords," wrote Farrow. "Hachette's complicity in this should be called out for what it is and they should have to answer for it." In 2018, Ronan won a Pulitzer Prize for his reporting on the heavy concealed sexual abuse by producer Harvey Weinstein. Ronan’s article in The New Yorker helped bring awareness to Weinstein’s abuse and acted as the catalyst for the #MeToo movement. The following year, Ronan released Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators with Hachette Book Group. The book expanded on Ronan’s article and included additional interviews with Weinstein’s victims, as well as more investigative reporting into the years of cover-up for one of Hollywood’s most highly regarded producers. Following the news of Hachette’s decision to work with Allen, Ronan says he is cutting ties with his publisher.Sharing a statement via Twitter on March 3, Ronan echoed his sister’s message, adding “My sister Dylan has never been contacted to respond to any denial or mischaracterization of the abuse she suffered at the hands of Woody Allen — a credible allegation, maintained for almost three decades, backed up by contemporaneous accounts and evidence. It's wildly unprofessional in multiple obvious directions for Hachette to behave this way. But it also shows a lack of ethics and compassion for victims of sexual abuse, regardless of any personal connection or breach of trust here." Ronan Farrow’s Catch and Kill has been a huge title for Hachette Book Group, both critically and commercially. The book sold 44,000 print copies in the US during its first week of release, became the number one selling book on Amazon and debuted on the New York Times bestseller’s list. On February 19, the L.A. Times announced the finalists for the Booker Prize, naming Farrow’s Catch and Kill among the titles on the prestigious list. The book was also named as a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award in AutobiographyTwo of Weinstein’s most recognizable victims, Rosanna Arquette and Rose McGowan, have continued to support the Farrow siblings in the wake of the news that Hachette will publish Allen’s memoir.
