Everyone knows that when you’re a part of a couple, you often do things for your partner that you wouldn’t ordinarily do. You love them, so you just tend to go along with it, even if it’s completely embarrassing.

At Halloween, that often involves dressing up in couples costumes–like Mario and Luigi or Bonnie and Clyde–that can be ridiculous at best; but Kit Harington probably wishes he could  be so lucky. His fiancée and one-time Game of Thrones co-star, Rose Leslie, made him dress as something much, much worse.

She made him dress as Jon Snow.

That’s right, for a costumed birthday party Harington dressed as the man who knows nothing, and Leslie thought it was a hoot. Can you imagine the faces of the people who were attending that party when they saw what the guy picked for his costume? And it wasn’t even a legit Jon Snow costume from the set or anything—it was one of those store-bought ordeals that you kind of make your own.

Like these fine chaps.

My Halloween Costume

A post shared by Katrina (@katrina.olafson) on

It all started when Harington was invited to a 30th birthday party with a “bad taste” costume theme. Being a procrastinator, he left getting an actual costume to the last minute, and he made the mistake of bringing Leslie with him. At the store, the unwitting clerk told Harington that he kind of looked like Jon Snow, and that she actually had a Game of Thrones costume in the back.

“And she pulled out a Jon Snow costume and Rose whispered in my ear, ‘I won’t love you if you don’t wear it… you should do it,’” Harington recalls to Heat Magazine. “The people bringing round canapés were looking at me thinking, ‘You sad man! You’ve come dressed as your character.’ I think the woman in the shop realized who I was as I was leaving.”

We suppose the good news in this story is that it’s not like Snow Harington actually had a costume from set laying around his house or anything like that. And it’s also kind of sweet that he did it to make Leslie happy.

Maybe he does know a thing or two. Either way here’s hoping he recycles the costume again for Halloween. Or at least their next dinner party.
