Stella Carlin may have pulled one over on our favourite Dandelion, Piper, on Orange is the New Black, but Ruby Rose, the Australian model and actress who played her has pretty much won us over with her androgynous beauty. And apparently we aren’t the only ones.
Ralph Lauren has announced Rose as the new face of its Denim & Supply line for its upcoming spring collection, and we’re pretty giddy over the news. Not only because she’s gorgeous, but because this is another win for gender fluidity. Oh, and obviously because she’s also going to kill it.
Of course it probably feels like this has been a long time coming for Rose, who has admitted when she first started out she heard a lot of conversation about the way she should dress, cut her hair and decorate her body. We have to say that so far it’s been a pretty great year for Rose between her roles on Orange, the upcoming John Wick 2 and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. In a recent interview with the Associated Press she pointed to pop culture phenoms like Transparent and OITNB for starting the conversations that have helped bolster her career.
“People were waiting to start this conversation,” she said. “Someone had to ignite it and once that happened, it was just a snowball effect where you had celebrities and all different people coming out and saying, ‘I’m gender fluid’ or ‘I’m transgender,’ and people feeling more comfortable in their skin.”
For the Ralph Lauren shoot, Rose was photographed by Mark Seliger alongside Hailey Baldwin and artist Edward Granger. The photos will be released over a four-part campaign on the brand’s official Instagram page, @DenimandSupplyRL. If this preview is any indication, we can’t wait to see more.
