Mark your calendars because RuPaul’s Drag Race is putting celebrities to werk! On Tuesday, TV host, executive producer, and drag superstar RuPaul announced that his Emmy award-winning show has been greenlit for another season – but with an unexpected twist. The upcoming series, RuPaul’s Celebrity Drag Race, will follow 12 celebrities as they compete to win America’s Next Celebrity Drag Superstar.
As a limited spin-off series, RuPaul’s Celebrity Drag Race will only run four episodes (sigh), but each episode will feature three celebrities undergoing the ultimate full-drag transformation in an attempt to snatch the winning title and collect the accompanying prize money (don’t worry, the money will be donated to the charity of the celebrity’s choice). The series will air in 2020 (as will the upcoming Crave series Canada's Drag Race) but there’s no word yet on exactly which celebrities plan on participating in the show. We do know that past RuPaul queens Alyssa Edwards, Asia O’Hara, Bob the Drag Queen, Kim Chi, Monét X Change, Monique Heart, Nina West, Trinity the Tuck, Trixie Mattel and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo will be joining in on the fierce festivities.“Doing drag does not change who you are, it reveals who you are,” RuPaul said in a statement. “I can’t wait for the world to see what happens when our celebrity contestants get all up in drags!”We can’t wait to see it either! Is it too late to start a petition for more episodes? Our list of dream RuPaul Celebrity contestants is well, endless (yes, Will Smith and Channing Tatum are on the list).Sadly, we’ll have to wait until 2020 to catch RuPaul’s Celebrity Drag Race, but for now, you can stream every single episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race (we repeat, every. Single. Episode) on Crave.
