Ryan Gosling has a pretty basic theory as to why the entire Internet and most of the offline world considers him to be the most boyfriendable material out there. It’s his Canadianness.

Really, are we that surprised?

“I think it’s part of…um…America just finally realizing that there’s a place called Canada. That it’s nearby. And the people there are, you know, different but the same,” Gosling said in an interview with GQ.

How very like Gosling to do the patriotic, humble thing and pin his charm on this snow-covered, maple syrup-loving nation of ours.

But is it the truth? GQ‘s interviewer sure didn’t think so, and said as much. But Gosling had at least a little bit of anecdotal evidence to support his answer. Ladies and gentlemen, exhibit B: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

“Well, it’s the only thing that makes any goddamn sense,” Gosling said. “I mean, look at Trudeau. He’s doing a lot of things, but things that are kind of natural parts of being Canadian. I don’t think Canada is as shocked by what Trudeau is doing as the rest of the world is.”

He’s right, we’re not shocked. But we sure are proud!

Gosling looks dapper as ever on the cover of the latest issue of the men’s mag, and is lauded in the headline as being able to do it all, including sing, dance and act.

But he’s right, that’s just part of the reason we all love him so much; his Canadianness really does earn him all sorts of points in our books. And all of those hilarious Hey Girl memes don’t hurt either.
