As so many people stock up on pasta, water, and toilet paper, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are trying to set a good, anti-hoarder message by putting their money where their mouth is. As in, they put a whopping one million bucks towards food banks so that those who can’t afford the essentials during these challenging times can actually stay nourished. Because obviously their fans needed another excuse to call them some of the most wonderful beings on the planet. The parents of three are said to be worth about $91 million, so they can certainly afford to help out those in need, but it’s safe to say “$1 million” packs a punch in terms of persuading others to do what they can to help too. And, according to Reynolds, that’s part of the message they’re hoping to convey by making the donation public.“Covid-19 has brutally impacted older adults and low-income families,” Reynolds wrote on Instagram. “Blake and I are donating $1 million to be split between FEEDING AMERICA and FOOD BANKS CANADA. If you can give, these orgs need our help. Take care of your bodies and hearts. Leave room for joy. Call someone who’s isolated and might need connection.” Never one to be totally serious, the actor then took a jab at his longtime “rival” Hugh Jackman by adding, “(Hugh Jackman’s # is 1-555-[tear emoji]-HUGH).”“Thank you, Ryan and Blake, for your incredible support. Your gift means so much to us and the millions of people we serve,” Feeding America wrote in the comments. “And to everyone who you inspire to give during these uncertain times—every dollar and minute makes a difference.”[video_embed id='1888061']RELATED: Ryan Reynolds has a doppelganger on Tik Tok[/video_embed]Lively also shared the news with her fans on Instagram, urging others to support those who need it most right now. She added that just because people are practising social distancing right now doesn’t mean that we can’t all look out for one another. “Communities are stepping up—shopping for the elderly, making lunches for children. We can all do something for one another, even if that’s simply staying home,” she wrote.“Sending so much love. Now can someone please tell Ryan that “emotional distancing” from his mother in law is not a thing. Nothing can save him.” For those who are unfamiliar, Foodbanks Canada is an organization that works with a network of provincial associations across the country to help relieve hunger at the community level. According to them 40 per cent of the food that’s distributed by Canadian food banks is fresh (milk, eggs, fruits and veggies, bread), as the goal is to get nutritious foods to people in need across the country.Meanwhile, Reynolds isn’t the only Canadian celeb trying to lend a hand right now. In February Justin Bieber donated some cash to Beijing Chunmiao Children Aid Foundation, a charity that helps foster children’s well-being in China.“Watching the news I couldn’t imagine how scary it would be if a new disease was effecting my wife and family and friends,” he said at the time. “China we stand with you as a collective humanity… whether it be this or the fires of Australia we all need to be there for each other.”Amen.[video_embed id='1923260']RELATED: How Hollywood is responding to COVID-19[/video_embed]
