It was all so promising at first.

Promotional coupon websites Teambuy and Dealfind offered massive discounts on almost anything from taxi services, to camera-carrying drones. It was like Canadians had found the holy grail of sales. That’s why from coast-to-coast, we eagerly opened our wallets, and braced for cool products.

But that’s when the dream was cruelly snatched away.

Sorry! That deal is for new customers only. Sorry! You can’t use your coupon for another year because so many people have already booked for it. Sorry! Your coupon expired before you could even use it.

Sorry! I hate this website!

So a recent surge of customers complaining that their coupons weren’t being honoured anymore seemed like just another nail in the coffin. The possible culprit: Couch Commerce, the company that owns the websites, recently filed for bankruptcy protection. The result is that both the business and customers who relied on the services are facing a loss, possibly in the millions of dollars.

But the bottom line for us? Good riddance, this was all too good to be true from the start.

And seriously, watch the door.
