During a panel discussion in New York this week, This Is Us series creator Dan Fogelman revealed that the writers not only know how the show will eventually end, but that the cast has already shot scenes that will appear in the series finale. Wow, even in the off season This Is Us knows how to make us cry.
Fogelman was joined at the FYC panel by cast members Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Susan Kelechi Watson, Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley and Chris Sullivan (Sterling K. Brown was in attendance via video chat ) and said that the writers “have a story to tell and want to do this the right way.”

Does this mean our favourite cry porn is ending soon? No need to start panicking just yet. The show is set to premiere its third season this fall and considering the success of the first two seasons, This Is Us isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Plus, a show built around multiple storylines and time jumps needs a clear game plan from the beginning, or else it’s just a big mess.
While the future of each character continues to be shrouded in mystery, Ventimiglia, who plays Pearson family patriarch Jack, did confirm that he knows how the show ends. The rest of the cast, however, are largely in the dark along with the audience.
Discussing the overall direction of @NBCThisisUs :@Dan_Fogelman I’ve already shot pieces of the final scene of the final episode.@debrabirnbaum And you guys all know [how it ends]?@MiloVentimiglia: Yep.@SullivanTweet: I don’t know ANYTHING.#ThisIsUsFYC

Well, most of the audience. According to Fogelman, he may have accidentally revealed the storyline for Season 3 to two women who sat next to Fogelman and his wife at dinner one night. Either these women are great fans of the show and don’t want to ruin the season for other people, or they thought Fogelman was talking about a dysfunctional family that cries. A lot.
This Is Us returns with new episodes this fall on CTV. Check out exclusive interviews with the cast at CTV.ca.
